Google Map 3D Now Shows You Helicopter View

Google is adding a new "helicopter view" option for directions in Google Maps, enabling you to see your trip from above in full 3D glory. Google is making use of its Earth view engine for this and it's a great way of both making people aware that they can see 3D content in Google Maps but also a way making trip planning more fun.

"Getting directions is one of the most popular features on Google Maps, whether it be for driving, walking, biking or transit," Paul Yang, a Google Maps engineer, wrote.

"Today, we are launching a new feature that allows you to bring your upcoming trip to life, by allowing you to preview your route in 3D," he announced.
The feature is now available to all users, but you need the Earth view plugin to make use of it. Enabling the feature is easy. Just plan out a route, like usual.

googlemap3d

You'll see the regular directions page, but there is now a 3D button next to the starting point. Hitting it will switch from the 2D map view to the 3D Earth view.

Then you'll be able to follow along as your trip is played back via the 3D engine. You can pause it at any moment and then move around, zoom in and check out the view from different angles.

You can also jump directly to another part of the trip by clicking on any step from the list on the left. Of course, once you're done, you can switch back to the 2D view by clicking on the 2D button.

The big caveat is that you have to install the Google Earth plugin for any of this to work. The plugin is available for most browsers on Windows, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Mac OS X, Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox. Linux users are out of luck.

What Is Conficker,How To Protect System From Conficker( Credits Microsofts)

Conficker, also known as Downup, Downadup and Kido, is a computer worm targeting the Microsoft Windows operating system that was first detected in November 2008.It uses flaws in Windows software and dictionary attacks on administrator passwords to propagate while forming a botnet. Conficker has since spread rapidly into what is now believed to be the largest computer worm infection since the 2003 SQL Slammer, with more than seven million government, business and home computers in over 200 countries now under its control. But now again its under news and its also listen that Conficker has again created a huge army of more than 12 million computers which have been infected by this Worm.

Lets cut the chat here about what is Conficker as it not important the main this on which this article is based i.e How to protect your system from Conficker and after feeling this to be serious search a way to which really going to help the victim which is under control of Conficker.

Is my computer infected with the Conficker worm?

Probably not. Microsoft released a security update in October 2008 (MS08-067) to protect against Conficker.

If your computer is up-to-date with the latest security updates and your antivirus software is also up-to-date, you probably don't have the Conficker worm.

If you are still worried about Conficker, follow these steps:

Go to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate to verify your settings and check for updates.

If you can't access http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate, go to http://safety.live.com and scan your system.

If you can't go to http://safety.live.com, contact support at 1-866-PCSafety or 1-866-727-2338. This phone number is for virus and other security-related support.

What does the Conficker worm do?

To date, security researchers have discovered the following variants of the worm in the wild.

Win32/Conficker.A was reported to Microsoft on November 21, 2008.

Win32/Conficker.B was reported to Microsoft on December 29, 2008.

Win32/Conficker.C was reported to Microsoft on February 20, 2009.

Win32/Conficker.D was reported to Microsoft on March 4, 2009.

Win32/Conficker.E was reported to Microsoft on April 8, 2009.

Win32/Conficker.B might spread through file sharing and via removable drives, such as USB drives (also known as thumb drives). The worm adds a file to the removable drive so that when the drive is used, the AutoPlay dialog box will show one additional option.

The Conficker worm can also disable important services on your computer.

In the screenshot of the Autoplay dialog box below, the option Open folder to view filesPublisher not specified was added by the worm. The highlighted option — Open folder to view files — using Windows Explorer is the option that Windows provides and the option you should use.

If you select the first option, the worm executes and can begin to spread itself to other computers.

How does the Conficker worm work?

How do I remove the Conficker worm?

If your computer is infected with the Conficker worm, you may be unable to download certain virus protection security products, such as the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool or you may be unable to access certain websites, such as Microsoft Update. If you can't access those tools, try using the Microsoft Safety Scanner for virus removal.

HTC Evo 3D

3D is the latest buzzword in tech town. And smartphone makers are slowly turning their attention to it. A few weeks ago LG launched Optimus 3D, giving people an option to watch 3D content without using any glasses.
Now, HTC is trying to woo consumers with its Evo 3D. It's a big phone, even by the standards of high-end Android phone. And it makes some big promises as far as watching and shooting 3D pictures and videos are concerned. We take a look at Evo to see if can deliver on its promises.

Built well but bulky
The first thing you notice when you pick up Evo 3D is its weight. At 170 grams it is one of the heaviest Android smartphones in the market currently. Thankfully, all this bulk comes from quality construction (as well as few components required for 3D content). Though there is not much metal in the shell, the quality of plastic is very good and the phone feels solid in hands. The textured back cover is a nice touch and the aluminum around the camera pod gives the phone some much-needed elegance. Apart from the usual buttons and ports, Evo 3D has a two special buttons the right side of the phone. One can be used for flicking between 3D and 2D modes while the other acts as a camera shutter button, an important addition considering that to click 3D pictures it is vital to keep the phone as steady as possible.

Evo 3D is almost similar to HTC Sensation in terms of hardware. It has a dual-core processor running at 1.2Ghz, 4.3 inch LCD screen, Adreno 220 GPU and support for a SD card up to 32GB. The major differences are RAM and cameras. Unlike Sensation that has 768MB RAM, Evo 3D comes with 1GB RAM. Also, Evo 3D packs two five mega-pixel primary cameras compared to Sensation's single eight mega-pixel camera.

In terms of software too, there are similarities. Evo 3D runs on Android 2.3, customized with Sense 3.0. The 4.3 inch screen, which has a qHD resolution (540x960 pixels), is sharp and holds up well in front of fantastic screens found on other high-end phones like Sensation and Galaxy S2.

As we said in our Sensation review the new lock screen of Sense UI with an animated ring is a nice touch as it allows users to access with single swiping gesture. The performance on Evo is snappy, with no lag in user interface or animations. The same can be said about browsing performance or gaming. GPS too works the way it should be. In phone functions - messaging and calls - too the phone 3D gave us no reason to complain.

Battery life, however, was less than stellar. When used on 3G, the phone struggled to last from 9 to 5. Snapping 3D pictures or recording 3D videos particularly hit the battery hard.

Does 3D matter?
With a phone like Evo it all comes down to this question. There are some preloaded 3D videos on the device and if you don't mind holding the phone at the appropriate angle for long durations, as well as can deal with the strain that 3D viewing puts on eyes, these videos show 3D content can be an enjoyable experience.

At the same time, finding more such content is an arduous task. To tackle this problem, Evo comes with two cameras. Why two? Because single one can't capture 3D content. The quality of 3D content captured through these cameras depends on how steadily the phone has been held while shooting and what is the scene. While capturing images or frames that have depth, or in words deep background, 3D effect is more apparent. Under other circumstances, it doesn't work too well.

Of course, if you don't like 3D too much, you can always use flick the switch - it's above shutter release button - and revert back to 2D camera. But it is important to note that even in 2D mode you can click only 5MP pictures and videos are limited to 720P. Quality of pictures and videos in 2D mode is decent though not as good as what Sensation produces with its 8MP camera.

USA Today hacked by Script Kiddies on Twitter

usatoday-hacked
A group of hackers who target the Twitter feeds of news organisations claimed a fresh victim on Sunday when they hijacked the micro-blogging feed of USA Today.

The group, who use the self-disparaging moniker Script Kiddies, hijacked the @USAToday Twitter feed to encourage fans to contact them to suggest new targets. "Please like The Script Kiddies on Facebook! You could choose our next target!" one of the unauthorised (since purged) updates said.

USA Today quickly regained control of the compromised feed. "@usatoday was hacked and as a result false tweets were sent. We worked with Twitter to correct it. The account is now back in our control," it said. "We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion caused to our readers and thank you for reading @usatoday."

Script Kiddies previously hit the micro-blogging feeds of Fox News – where they posted a false bulletin on the fictitious assassination of US President Barack Obama – and NBC News, where they posted false news about an imaginary terrorist attack on New York.

It's unclear how the feeds were compromised but weak password security of one type or another is one obvious suspect. A combination of social engineering and malware is also possible and seems to be the most likely scenario, at least as far as the NBC hack is concerned.

More commentary on the hack – including screenshots of the unauthorised posts – can be found in a blog post by net security firm Sophos here.

We don't track logged-out users, says Facebook

facebook.png
Facebook has attempted to shoot down claims that it leaves cookies on users' machines even after they log out of the social network. The response came after an Australian blogger alleged the site can still snoop on your web surfing after you've signed out.

Nik Cubrilovic, concerned about Facebook's approach to privacy, said that logging out doesn’t make a blind bit of difference, adding that Facebook still has ways to potentially track your behavior.

Cubrilovic’s conclusion after examining the behavior of Facebook’s cookies is simple: “Even if you are logged out, Facebook still knows and can track every page you visit.”

This is because instead of telling browsers to remove cookies when users log out, Facebook merely "alters" the state of those little parcels of data – including the cookie that stores your account number.

As a result, if you happen to pass by a page with a Facebook “like” button, "share" button, “or any other widget”, your information – including your account number – will be sent back to Facebook. And if you log into Facebook from a public terminal, those cookies could be left behind.

However, Facebook doesn’t agree. Whether or not Cubrilovic’s claim that he notified Facebook without response during 2010 is accurate, he certainly got a hair-trigger response from Facebook this time.

In a comment on Cubrilovic's blog, a Facebook engineer – identifying himself as staffer Gregg Stefancik – said that “our cookies aren’t used for tracking”, and that “most of the cookies you highlight have benign names and values”.

"Generally, unlike other major internet companies, we have no interest in tracking people," the insider added.

LulzSec Hackers betrayed by HideMyAss.com

lulzsec-jail
It was last week, Cody Kretsinger, a 23 years old from Phoenix, Arizona that was allegedly involved in hacking Sony Pictures, got arrested and I was having a battle of the mind on how and what possible means that Feds used to track this guy down.

Well it now seems that what we should believe to be hiding our ass is now exposing our ass. HideMyAss.com allows you to surf anonymously online in complete privacy.

The indictment against Kretsinger says he used a proxy server to hide his identity while carrying out the attack. But it emerged that the site he allegedly used to disguise his identity cooperated with the Feds to track him down.

The details of how it all happened is not yet public, but Hidemyass blog said they had to cooperate with the police when a leaked IRC chat logs that was released, exposed the participants of using various VPN service which their's were among.

It first came to our attention when leaked IRC chat logs were released, in these logs participants discussed about various VPN services they use, and it became apparent that some members were using our service. No action was taken, after all there was no evidence to suggest wrongdoing and nothing to identify which accounts with us they were using. At a later date it came as no surprise to have received a court order asking for information relating to an account associated with some or all of the above cases. As stated in our terms of service and privacy policy our service is not to be used for illegal activity, and as a legitimate company we will cooperate with law enforcement if we receive a court order (equivalent of a subpoena in the US).
You can be sure that HideMyAss is not the only provider to be hit with subpoenas and essentially being forced to hand over user data. It’s likely the FBI and other officials are digging deep and requesting similar information from other VPN providers and online services such as Pastebin, Twitter, and other tools and web services commonly used by hackers.

Full indictment is below:
